Standing for Us All | Greta Thurnberg

SoMA Alley, back of 614 Main Ave (Front Street Taproom).

While not a mural in the traditional sense, Standing for Us All, the enlarged image created by wet plate photography is an important piece of public art in Fargo and is a welcome companion to Fargo’s many murals. This piece was created by photographer Shane Balkowitsch, Nostaligic Glass Wet Plate Studio, Bismarck, North Dakota and captures Swedish environmentalist Greta Thurnberg during her 2019 visit to Standing Rock. When the potential placement of the portrait in Bismarck was met with opposition and controversy, Fargo welcomed the piece and Front Street Taproom proudly displays it next to their alley patio.

Balkowitsch’s image of Greta has been displayed or projected in cities around the world including Los Angeles and Paris.
