Native Prairie

Native Prairie

Corner of First Avenue & Historic Eighth Street, SoMA district of Downtown Fargo.

North Dakota’s native prairie is a crucial part of the local eco system, attracting a range of wildlife. The grasses that make up these meadows are native and sturdy, with roots that can penetrate over ten feet in depth. This rout structure not only help to secure soil but makes the plants resilient to dry and wet conditions. Wildflowers are also an essential feature of the ecosystem, supplying pollen, nectar, and refuge for a variety of insects, including bees and butterflies.

This mural was created as a tribute to Eunice Farstad and Carol Jaeger, two women who were integral parts of their communities and embodied the resilience and beauty of the native prairie.

Native Prairie was created by artist Jeff Knight.
